Out in Ruaha we often come across the buffalo in groups of a couple hundred at a time, roaming the plains. Much like the wildebeest migration in the Serengeti, the buffalo are on the move looking for water and fresh grazing spots, as well as mineral licking sites.
There have been recent efforts to try and learn more about the buffalo and track their movements across the different seasons. Collaring some members of the larger groups is allowing researchers to get a better understanding of these animals and we look forward to hearing the findings and learning more about our Ruaha residents. One thing we do know, in their circle-of-life existence, the buffalo are a main food source for the lions in the area.
These latest groups are a mix of males and females, with their young at toe.
