Joseph Welwel
Chada, Katavi, Western Tanzania
Joseph started his career as a waiter and worked his way through the ranks to become a camp manager. While working as a waiter, he was also studying hard to learn more about guiding, telling us it was our authentic guiding style he enjoyed the most. He got a place at Mount Meru Tour Guiding College where we contributed half of his fees so he could get his full qualifications.
We always enjoy giving our camp colleagues a range of experiences, so after returning from college, Joseph worked as a transfer driver and as a front-of-house manager at Serengeti Safari Camp. Finally, after much hard work and dedication, he began his guiding career in Ruaha, followed by Katavi and then the Serengeti.
After all his time in the bush, we knew we had to offer Joseph his dream position of camp manager. He enjoyed managing Serengeti Safari Camp and Kuro in Tarangire, but has now moved to his favourite location and camp in all of Tanzania, Chada Katavi in western Tanzania.
