Hussein Ngaroka
Sand Rivers, Nyerere, Southern Tanzania
Hussein was born in the coastal town of Tanga. His father worked for the Tanzanian railway, so the family was always on the move. He did his secondary education in Dar es Salaam, which he then followed with a college education in guiding. Hussein was inspired by his cousin, who was a guide in the northern part of Tanzania, and his knowledge of the wild made the young Hussein want to follow in his footsteps. Starting in the Selous Impala camp as a guide, Hussein quickly realized he had found his calling.
In the Selous, Hussein would often bump into friend and fellow guide Ian Kiwelu, who worked for Nomad, and this was fortuitous for us as soon he came to join our team. He remained in the Selous, an area he already knew so well, before moving to our camp Kigelia in Ruaha and then Chada in Katavi. Hussein has a great passion for wildlife in general, but especially birds, which is why he is so well suited to Ruaha, a birders paradise.
