Paul Joynson Hicks
UK born and bred, Paul has spent the last 30 years living and working as a professional photographer in East and Central Africa. He has published coffee table books on Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia and Saadani National Park, demonstrating the breadth of his photography knowledge and the diversity of his life experiences. At the very heart of his photography is an exuberant passion for Africa and, having travelled extensively throughout the East African region, Paul is fluent in Swahili and has an insightful perception of local cultures. He also has an enthusiastic interest in wildlife and birdlife adding an extra dimension to the photographic angle he brings. Paul is also responsible for much of Nomad's own stunning photography which makes us very proud!
Paul runs a select number of photographic safaris to some of his favourite destinations and events in Africa. He is a fantastic teacher and demonstrator and manages to get the best out of everyone in a fun and charming way. As well as providing tips and advice on safari, he also runs workshops when back in camp to review and discuss the photographs taken and then provides new ideas to work on, allowing his 'pupils' the opportunity to improve their photography.
Paul's trips are open to photographers of all levels; all he asks is that people bring a digital SLR camera and a laptop for reviewing and downloading photos. It's a great opportunity to learn from one of Africa's great photographers whilst on a stunning safari.
