Richard Knocker
Our specialist guide, Richard Knocker has never not been 'on safari' - at least it certainly seems that way! Born and raised in Kenya, the only time he was off the continent was a stint in Turkey, teaching at a university in Istanbul for a few years before trying his hand at being a guide.
After returning to Africa, he moved into management, running camps in Kenya's Maasai Mara and the Serengeti, alongside his wife, Jules. They were early members of the original Nomad Safari Guides, a group of visionary safari types who met on a hill in the Serengeti and decided to pool their resources - two Land Rovers and a trailer - to form one of Tanzania's pioneering safari companies.
Going on safari with Richard is always a real privilege, not least because of his sense of humour, sparkling wit and storytelling ability. (He has also been referred to as ‘a better-looking John Cleese’). He is 110% passionate about the bush and utterly committed to everything in it. He tends to get over-excited whenever the conversation veers towards ecology and conservation.
He, like all our guides, is one of Nomad's greatest ambassadors. We wouldn't be without any of them. Please get in touch if you'd like to request Richard to guide your safari.
